Sweet news from the Ontario SPCA and Humane Society: National Cupcake Day™ goes virtual

The annual fundraiser for animals in need will take on a new format during COVID

Midland, ON (Jan. 18, 2021) – Cupcakes aren’t cancelled, but National Cupcake Day™ will look different this year as the nation-wide fundraiser goes virtual in support of the Ontario SPCA and Humane Society, as well as participating SPCAs, humane societies and rescue groups across Canada.

To keep people safe during COVID-19, the Ontario SPCA Midland & District Animal Centre is asking supporters to raise funds for animals in need in their community by baking a difference at home with the National Cupcake Day Decorating Contest, presented by Milk-Bone® and Robin Hood®.

“National Cupcake Day is the sweetest day of the year, and we need your help to support vulnerable animals across Canada,” says Caytlynn Croisier, Manager, Ontario SPCA Midland & District Animal Centre. “We’re challenging you to a bake off, so pre-heat those ovens and get ready to show off your cupcake decorating talents.”

The cupcake with the most votes in each of the four categories wins, so ask your family and friends to visit the National Cupcake Day website before Feb. 22 to vote for your creation and make a donation to your online personal fundraising page.

The Ontario SPCA and participating SPCAs, humane societies and rescue groups are charitable organizations that rely on the generosity of donors to change the lives of vulnerable animals. By taking part in National Cupcake Day and raising funds for the participating animal organization of your choice, you are providing urgently needed care and shelter for homeless animals.

To take part in National Cupcake Day, visit nationalcupcakeday.ca to register, fundraise and submit a photo of your cupcake creation for a chance to win some great prizes.

The Ontario SPCA and Humane Society is a registered charity, established in 1873. The Society and its network of communities facilitate and provide for province-wide leadership on matters relating to the prevention of cruelty to animals and the promotion of animal well-being. Offering a variety of mission-based programs, including community-based sheltering, animal wellness services, provincial animal transfers, shelter health & wellness, high-volume spay/neuter services, animal rescue, animal advocacy, Indigenous partnership programs and humane education, the Ontario SPCA is Ontario’s animal charity.

Grow your business with 8-week online eCommerce Rockstar program starting Jan. 26

If you’re an experienced entrepreneur you know building a successful ecommerce business requires more than just a course or an online community.

Alex Brown, founder of the eCommerce Rockstars Accelerator Program, proud Georgian graduate, and a mentor with Georgian College’s Henry Bernick Entrepreneurship Centre will share his expertise in an eight-week online program focusing on tactical training and strategic planning. With a cohort of successful entrepreneurs, you will grow your business together by leveraging Brown’s unique skillset, experience and expertise.

Through the program, you will master the 15 pillars of running a structured and scalable ecommerce business either as a solopreneur, or as part of a team. You will receive over 60 hours of complete video training from 25 industry experts, including Brown.

“People are shopping online now more than ever, and that isn’t going to stop,” said Brown, a successful serial entrepreneur who graduated from Georgian’s Business Administration program in 2007. “In the history of the world, now is the best time to build an online business. And if your business has been forced to adjust to this new world then you know how tough it can be to make it work. This is why I’m so excited to take companies through the complete framework for success I’ve learned through building two companies up to annual revenues over $10M in online sales. If a regular guy like me can do this, anyone can.”

Participants will also collaborate with other growth-focused entrepreneurs, share experiences, and create power partnerships and alliances.

The program will accommodate 20 businesses and costs $99 (plus HST). The application deadline is Jan. 21 and the program begins Jan. 26. Apply online now.

The program is presented in partnership with the Henry Bernick Entrepreneurship Centre, Small Business Centre, Catapult Grey Bruce, and the South Georgian Bay Small Business Enterprise Centre.
