INCREASE IN ENTRIES INTO VEHICLES
(WASAGA BEACH, ON, May 8, 2023) Members of the Huronia West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are investigating an increase of entries made into vehicles over the past few days.
Huronia West OPP is reminding residents and visitors to “Lock It or Lose It”. Leaving your vehicle unlocked and/or with valuables in plain view offers would-be criminals an easy opportunity to victimize vehicle owners.
Don’t leave yourself vulnerable to becoming a victim of this crime. Ensure that your vehicle is locked regardless of where you are and make sure that valuables are not in plain view.
Vehicle owners/passengers can do simple things to decrease the risk of being victimized, such as:
- Never leave a running vehicle unattended
- Lock your doors
- Roll up your windows
- Keep valuables out of sight
- Keep your registration and proof of insurance in your wallet or purse, not in the glove box
- Pocket your keys
- At night or during extended parking periods, always park in a well-lit area.
- Park in a locked garage, if possible.
- Install surveillance security cameras.
- Install motion-activated lights.
Anyone with information or surveillance footage regarding this investigation is asked to contact the Huronia West OPP Detachment at 705-429-3575 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). When you contact Crime Stoppers you remain anonymous, you will never have to testify, and you may be eligible to receive a cash reward of up to $2,000.

20 YEARS OF DEDICATION WITHIN THE HURONIA WEST OPP COMMUNITY
(TOWN OF WASAGA BEACH, CLEARVIEW AND SPRINGWATER TOWNSHIPS, ON, May 5, 2023) – The Huronia West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is proud to acknowledge Auxiliary Sergeant Norm Luke for his ongoing dedication and commitment to the Huronia West OPP communities. Earlier this week, Norm was presented an honorary medal and letter of recognition.
Originally from Timmins Ontario, Norm was a member of the Canadian Armed Forces as a Reservist with the Algonquin Regiment. During this time and prior to becoming an Auxiliary Officer Norm was also a member of the OPP Pipe Band. In the late 1990s, Norm moved to Mississauga to accept a job with the GO Transit Service. While still a member of the OPP Pipe Band, Norm was encouraged to apply to the OPP Auxiliary Program. In October 2002, Norm graduated and joined the Port Credit Auxiliary Unit. He moved to the Barrie area in 2003 and in 2005 he transferred to Huronia West OPP, where he has generously served the community since. In 2013, he was promoted as our Auxiliary Unit Supervisor. In July 2021, Norm, and his family were left homeless after a tornado had passed through Barrie. This tragedy did not prevent Norm from continuing with his volunteer work. He continued his administrative duties during this extremely stressful time for him and his family and resumed his full duties in the fall of 2022.
Norm, thank you for your ongoing commitment. Congratulations on your twenty years of service.
