Anten Mills by Dennis Gannon
Have you completed your Spring cleaning and discovered that you have many items that could be repurposed? Wondering if you should have a garage sale? Don’t know when the best time to have it would be? Well worry no more as the Anten Mills Community Recreation Association is pleased to advise that there will be a community wide garage sale on Saturday, June 10 from 8AM to noon. Posting has begun on the Anten Mills Community Bulletin Facebook page and there is a link to sign up. Over 15 families have already indicated they will be participating so it should bring lots of traffic to the sale.
Earlier this month the CRA met and updates on many of the activities that have happened, are occurring or upcoming were discussed. As the events get closer more information will be released. One activity that has seen new life is the Thursday night euchre. Usually at this time of the year they shut down for the season and return in the fall. The involvement has been such that they have asked to continue through the summer. Euchre will continue on Thursday evening starting at 7 PM until further notice so if you are looking for something to do, go give it a try.
At the meeting a local resident inquired if progressive Cribbage might be something that could be held at the community centre. As the township doesn’t provide much in passive type of recreational activities the CRA thought that this would fit well into our local programming. This will not be for those wanting to learn about cribbage but those who have some experience and enjoy the game. In order to determine what day and time to hold it, a survey will be posted in the near future on the Facebook page to check for sufficient interest. If you like cribbage, watch for the survey coming soon and respond.
Do you have a child who will be starting Junior Kindergarten this fall at any of our local schools? Do they or you know any other kids or parents who will be attending? Crystal, who ran the Sunday morning PlayGroup thought it would be great to get the kids and families together and introduce them to each other. Mark your calendar now for June 20 at the community centre for a meet and greet drop in. Crystal is working on some activities for the children along with food and drinks. More will be posted on Facebook but put the date in your family calendar now.
If you travel Nursery Road on occasion you will be pleased to see that it has been repaved. Thanks Springwater for looking after this.
Many have wondered what the status is of the new development along Wilson Drive that has been under construction for several years. This past week the Estates of Anten Mills subdivision received its formal approval as a registered plan of subdivision. The developer now needs to fulfill their subdivision requirements with the township before building permits can be issued. There is the potential for 76 new homes to be constructed in the coming years. Currently the street lights are being installed and there are real estate signs on some lots.
This past week a family on Horseshoe reported that they had a vehicle severely vandalized in their driveway. This is very unfortunate and not what we like to see happen. If you see unwanted activity please notify the OPP immediately. You can contact them by 9-1-1 if it’s a true emergency or by calling *677 (*OPP) for important but non urgent matters.
There are confirmed reports of a Black Bear and cub in the Hendrie Forest. If you walk your dog in the forest it would be wise to keep them on leash so not to cause concerns.
Springwater Township recently had a Trails Master Plan meeting and will be having a Parks and Recreation Master Plan Open House on June 5. If you have an interest in either of these check the Township website for more details.
That’s all for this week, THANKS for READING and BE WELL.
