Message From Doug Shipley, MP, Barrie – Springwater – Oro-Medonte
Every year, on November 11, we take the time to pause and honour the brave men and women who have fought to protect and uphold the freedoms we enjoy today. To show support for our veterans, I encourage you to wear a poppy, attend a Remembrance Day ceremony, or simply thank a veteran. It is our responsibility to make sure that their memory, service, and sacrifice are never forgotten.
If you wish to attend a service, the following ceremonies are among those taking place in the region:
- Royal Canadian Legion Branch 262 (Elmvale)— Ceremony will begin at 10:45 a.m. at the Elmvale Cenotaph.
- Royal Canadian Legion Branch 147 (Barrie) and the City of Barrie— Parade will begin at 10:00 a.m. from Dunlop St. and Mulcaster St. to Five Points & Ceremony at Memorial Square.
- Springwater Park-Assembly will begin at 10:00am at the Springwater Provincial Park Cenotaph
If you are unable to attend a ceremony on Remembrance Day, please pause at 11am to observe two minutes of silence. Take the opportunity to reflect and remember those who gave the ultimate sacrifice for our freedoms.
This year, on Veterans’ Week we also acknowledge the 75th Anniversary of United Nations Peacekeeping. Canada’s Peacekeepers are a great source of pride to all Canadians. Since the late 40s more than 125,000 members of the Canadian Armed Forces and over 4,000 officers from RCMP and other police services have acted as peacekeepers and in peace support missions around the world. With compassion and courage they have played a vital role in fostering peace and security at home and abroad.
We will never be able to truly repay our veterans, but we will continue to remember, respect and honour them for their dedication to our country, their service, and the sacrifices they have made.
Lest we forget.
As always, my constituency office is available to assist you with any matters related to the federal government. Please contact my office at Doug.Shipley@parl.gc.ca or 705-728-2596 for assistance.

Ontario Welcomes $40 Million Manufacturing Investment
TNR Industrial Doors’ expansion will create 30 new good-paying jobs in Oro-Medonte
Oct. 27, 2023, ORO-MEDONTE — The Ontario government is welcoming a $40 million investment by TNR Industrial Doors Inc., a leading manufacturer of high-performance rubber, freezer and cooler doors. The investment will be used to build a new advanced manufacturing facility that will create 30 new, good-paying jobs in Oro-Medonte.
This funding was announced today (Oct. 27, 2023) by Doug Downey, Member of Provincial Parliament for Barrie – Springwater – Oro-Medonte
“This investment will help bring high-quality manufacturing jobs to our region. This means more people can live and work in their chosen community,” said Doug Downey, MPP for Barrie – Springwater – Oro-Medonte. “I am thrilled that the Hörmann Group has chosen Oro-Medonte to build their new facility. This economic growth will help ensure the community continues to thrive for years to come.”
With their $40 million investment, TNR Industrial Doors Inc. — a subsidiary of German-owned Hörmann Group — will build a new 120,000 square-foot facility with advanced automation technology to increase production and reduce costs. To support this investment, Ontario will provide TNR Industrial Doors Inc. with $5 million through the Regional Development Program’s Southwestern Ontario Development Fund.
“This new facility of the family-run Hörmann Group signifies more than just bricks and mortar,” said Marcus von Reden, President of TNR Industrial Doors. “It symbolizes the spirit of progress, the promise of employment, and the hope of a brighter future for this community. The manufacturing facility we are breaking ground on today will create jobs, drive economic growth, and put Oro-Medonte on the map as a hub for cutting-edge technological advancements in the world of door manufacturing.”
Ontario is investing $140 million through its Regional Development Program to help manufacturers across the province grow and create new, good-paying jobs. To date, Ontario has provided over $110 million to support 100 projects through the program, leveraging over $1.1 billion in new investments and helping to create more than 2,300 jobs.
“Ontario’s robust manufacturing sector continues to grow thanks to companies like TNR Industrial Doors,” said Vic Fedeli, Minister of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade. “Through our Regional Development Program, our government is creating the right conditions for manufacturers to expand and create new jobs for workers in communities across the province. Thank you, TNR Industrial Doors, for strengthening your presence in Ontario.”
The Regional Development Program for Eastern and Southwestern Ontario was launched in November 2019. Through the program, businesses and municipalities can get financial support and guided access to a range of services and supports.
As part of the 2023 Ontario Budget, the government introduced the Ontario Made Manufacturing Investment Tax Credit.
