OPP Investigators Seeking Assistance In Solving Commercial Break and Enter in Midland
(Nov. 20, 2023 – MIDLAND,ON)- Investigators from the Southern Georgian Bay OPP Detachment are seeking assistance from the public after staff of the Event Horizon Hobbies on King Street, Midland contacted the OPP Communication Centre on November 18, 2023 to report an overnight break and enter to the retail store.
The culprits gained entrance to the store at approximately 2:27 am after smashing the front glass door and once inside unlawfully removed a number of “Magic Cards” that are part of the Magic Of The Gathering Game valued in excess of $20,000.

Fender Bender Results in Impaired Driving Charges in Midland
(Nov. 19, 2023 – MIDLAND, ON) Officers investigating a minor collision which occurred in Midland yesterday have charged one of the involved drivers for driving under the influence of alcohol.
On November 18, 2023 at around 3:00 p.m., members of the Southern Georgian Bay detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to the scene of a minor collision which occurred on Simcoe Road 93 in the Town of Midland. The two involved vehicles pulled off of the roadway and into the parking lot of a nearby shopping centre. While speaking with one of the drivers, officers noted the signs of alcohol consumption and entered into a drinking and driving investigation. The driver was placed under arrest and was transported to detachment to provide breath samples.
As a result of this investigation, William PEEL, 59 years of London, Ontario, faces the following charges contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada and the Highway Traffic Act:

Careless Driving
The accused was released from custody to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Midland on November 30, 2023. When charged with impaired driving, the driver’s license of the accused is suspended for 90 days and the vehicle they were operating is impounded for 7 days.
Midland Retail Store Trespass Complaint Leads To Arrest For Area Resident
(MIDLAND, ON)- A trespass complaint by Walmart Store security in Midland on November 15, 2023 led responding officers from the Southern Georgian Bay OPP Detachment to make an arrest of a male on store property.
Tyler COPECOG 21 years of no fixed address , Midland was arrested and charged criminally with Failure to comply with release order – other than to attend court and further with Failure to comply with undertaking in relation to attending to the retail store.
The accused remains in custody awaiting a bail hearing and will appear before the Ontario Court of Justice at a future date.
OPP Seeking Public Assistance with Poppy Donation Box Theft in Midland Suspect Identified and Charged
(Nov. 17, 2023 – MIDLAND,ON)- Through community support and investigation, the suspect was identified as Ashley MCLEOD 34 years of Yonge Street, Midland. The accused was arrested on November 16, 2023 and charged criminally with Theft Under $5000 and was released from custody to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on December 21, 2023.

Crashes and Calls From The Community Remove Suspected Impaired Drivers From Area Roadways
(Nov. 15, 2023 – MIDLAND, ON)- A report of a vehicle crash and a call from the community helped officers of the Southern Georgian Bay OPP Detachment remove three suspected impaired drivers from roadways here in North Simcoe.
Officers responded at approximately 2:12 am November 12, 2023 to a report of a pick up truck that had driven off of Rue Lafontaine East, Tiny Township into a roadside bush. The lone male driver was located and spoken to by officers who then entered into an impaired driving investigation. Officers at the scene also spoke to the driver of a second vehicle (car) that was present at the scene. This driver also became the subject of an impaired driving investigation as well. Both drivers were transported to Detachment for further investigation resulting in the following persons being charged criminally with driving related offences.
The operator of the pick up truck, Sylvain Michel PAYMENT 31 years of Tiny Township has been charged with
Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
The operator of the car, Brittnay EDWARDS 30 years of Tiny Township has been charged with
Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
and further with
Novice driver – B.A.C. above zero contrary to the Highway Traffic Act
Both accused persons were released from custody and will appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on November 30, 2023. They also faces a 90 day drivers licence suspensions as per the Ministry of Transportation (ADLS) guidelines and both vehicles were towed and impounded for 7 days.
A community member contacted the OPP Communication Centre after noticing a suspicious vehicle and persons in the Sacred Heart Catholic School parking lot on Elizabeth Street, Midland at approximately 11:35 pm November 14, 2023. Attending officers located the suspect vehicle at which time a number of occupants fled from the vehicle but the driver was identified and located. Officers spoke with the driver and entered an impaired by drug investigation resulting in the investigation being continued at Detachment by an OPP Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) officer.
As a result of this investigation, Tanner MCCUE 26 years of Penetanguishene has been charged criminally with the following offences.
Operation while impaired – drugs
Operation While Prohibited under the Criminal Code
Possession of a prohibited device or ammunition
The accused was released from custody and will appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on November 30, 2023. The accused also faces a 90 day drivers licence suspensions as per the Ministry of Transportation (ADLS) guidelines and both vehicles were towed and impounded for 45 days.
