August 21, 2024 – As part of an ongoing commitment to healthy aging, the Township of Tiny’s Senior Advisory Committee is excited to present a series of workshops this Fall addressing topics and issues related to seniors, older adults and their caregivers. The four sessions will be held in partnership with local clubs and service providers. Members of the community are encouraged to attend, and admittance is free with pre-registration. Details on the first two workshops are as follows:
Wed Sept 11, 2024: Wills and Power of Attorney
Estate planning is easy to put aside; we prefer to not think about our mortality. However, it’s one of the most important things we can do for ourselves and the people we care about. Wills and powers of attorney (POA) make up the cornerstone documents in an estate plan. A POA is meant to protect us while we’re alive and a will is to honor one’s wishes after they pass.
As part of this workshop, experts will cover strategies on taking control of your legal and financial well-being and protecting your loved ones. They will also discuss the importance of appointing trusted individuals to act on your behalf as well as the different types of Powers of Attorney.
The discussion will be led by a member of Durham Regional Police Service’s Older Adult Support and Investigative Services (OASIS).
Time 9:30am-12:00pm
Location: Township of Tiny Community Centre (91 Concession 8 East, Tiny)
Thursday, October 3rd, 2024: Keeping Active
Explore the importance of physical activity in healthy aging. Discover how staying active can prevent or delay age-related health issues, strengthen muscles for independent daily living, and enhance overall well-being. This workshop features an interactive presentation by Canada’s National Ballet School on Sharing Dance for Older Adults which can be done seated or standing. Additionally, there will be a lineup of fitness experts to guide participants in various aspects of fitness and well-being. The group will explore fun and effective ways to stay physically and mentally fit at any age. No prior experience is necessary – just come ready to have fun and stay healthy.
