Elmvale & District Food Bank Update – By Deb McLean, June 7, 2025
It has been sometime since the Elmvale & District Food Bank has updated the community. We try to acknowledge events through our Facebook page but for those who do not follow Facebook I will try to summarize a busy spring at the Food Bank.
Elmvale & District Food Bank is available to any resident of the Township and our coverage district experiencing food insecurity. Proof of residency is the only requirement, at this time.
This year, Elmvale & District Food Bank also had the privilege of helping others. During the two emergency shelters established at the Community Hall, due to winter storm conditions, we were able to provide food to cold, stranded travelers. This small jester was very much appreciated and was just a small part in the community coming together to help others!
In early March we were advised that the Township had approved a donation of $5.000.00 to the Food Bank. Although we arranged for a formal presentation to be made twice – the weather did not agree on either date!! The funds were presented to the Food Bank and hopefully we will have a formal presentation at some time.
The 2024 A-Maize Bags Cornhole Championship was held in early May. This year proceeds were given too many community organizations, including the Food Bank. For those attending it was a great day and we certainly thank everyone for their support.
Elmvale & District Food Bank took advantage of the EDHS Day. We thank the three wonderful students who did an amazing job at the Food Bank – cutting brush, cleaning up the vines on the fence and raking. It was so nice to work with these students.
Our Lady of Lourdes held a food drive during Catholic Education Week.
There were lots of smiles in the community during the annual Tim Hortons Smile Cookies Campaign. We thank all the organizations that helped to decorate the cookies. Lots of fun and many laughs were had. Together, we’ve made smiles happen, one cookie at a time, for a grand total of $13,028.15! A special thanks to the Trude Family and all of the staff at the local Tim Hortons.
Elmvale & District Food Bank thanks every individual, business and organization for the ongoing support. We encourage you to follow our Facebook pages where we try to acknowledge the generosity received throughout the year. We also try to keep an updated list of our most needed items.
Heritage Park Elmvale
25th Anniversary
Twenty-five years ago, on Canada Day, Elmvale and the surrounding area came together in the park to celebrate. After two years of removing old buildings, building an amphitheater, cutting some trees and relocating others, seeding and sodding, building a pavilion and stage, creating a parking lot, and grooming a trail, the community was ready to put the new facilities to use. Over one hundred people had put in 30 or more hours to bring this project to completion. Many people generously donated equipment, such as trucks, loaders, tractors, chainsaws, and planters, providing whatever was needed to get the job done
Each organization played a vital role through its own fundraising efforts. With financial support from the Federal Government, a shared vision began to take shape. Springwater Township purchased the land, and the community united to bring the park to life. It was a shining example of partnership in action, effective, collaborative, and truly inspiring.
Since that first Canada Day celebration, the community has enjoyed countless concerts that have brought people together in celebration. This ongoing project continues to offer much to be proud of, honoring both its rich history and its vibrant present.
This Canada Day, the community will come together in the park to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of Heritage Park. Join us on July 1st from 1:00 to 4:00 PM for an afternoon of festivities as we commemorate this milestone. There will be food, music, and so much more. It will be an opportunity to learn a little history of the park, celebrate our wonderful country, and strengthen the bonds of community.
