Canada Day in the Village: Celebrating 25 Years of Heritage Park

By Matt Garwood Councillor, Ward 1, Township of Springwater and George Allen, July 7, 2025

ELMVALE – 25 years ago, on Canada Day, our community gathered in Heritage Park to celebrate.

Since that first celebration, this park has become a cornerstone of our community, hosting concerts, events, and gatherings that have united us in tradition. Heritage Park stands today not only as a tribute to our history but as a vibrant space that continues to grow with care, pride, and community spirit.

As we gathered together once again to honour both the legacy of this special place and what it means to be Canadian, we reflect on the values that unite us: community, freedom, unity, and pride. In 2025, these values matter more than ever, and Canada Day gives us the perfect moment to reflect on and honour them.

A heartfelt thank you to the Elmvale District Lions Club for providing the food, the Township of Springwater, and the many dedicated volunteers and groups who made Canada Day in the Village possible.

Thank you, Elmvale, for being part of this celebration.

May Meeting Write- Up:

On Sunday May 11th, the Elmvale Dairy Club had our second meeting which was held at Marben Farms. We had a shared meeting with the Elmvale Sheep Club, and Elmvale Soil and Crop Club.  Steve Jones started off the meeting sharing information on how to identify weeds that are in our fields. Whitney Ball provided insight on judging Beef Heifers and Sheep.  Owen Wright and Julie Parnell provided insight on how to judge Dairy Cows and Show Halters. Rhonda Montgomery gave us reasons on how to judge Baked Goods. Then we had the opportunity to judge and give reasons for all the different classes in preparation for our judging competition at the Elmvale Fairgrounds.  Thanks to all the speakers for the great information and to Whitney Ball for hosting.

June Meeting Write-Up:

On Sunday June 22nd, the Elmvale Dairy Club had our third meeting which was held at Nellridge Jerseys. We had Aaron Mosley from Pretty View Farms demonstrate on how to clip our 4-H calves. He explained the different types of clippers, and what clippers to use where on the calf.  Every 4-H member had the opportunity to clip different parts of the calf to gain a little bit of experience on where to clip. At the end of the meeting, we had an ice cream sandwich to enjoy the 40 degree weather.  Thanks Aaron for your clipping demonstration and to Nellridge Jerseys for hosting a great meeting.
