Thank you for another incredible season at the Elmvale Farmers’ Market!

By Matt Garwood, Oct. 5, 2025

As the 2025 season comes to a close, we want to extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who made this year such a tremendous success. This summer was especially meaningful as the Elmvale Farmers’ Market proudly celebrated its 15th anniversary.

Over the past 15 years, the Market has grown into much more than a place to buy fresh, locally grown produce. It has become a vibrant gathering space, a weekly tradition where neighbours connect, local artisans and musicians showcase their talents, and community groups come together to share their work and passion. It’s a celebration of everything that makes Elmvale special.

Through conversations with vendors, visitors, and local business owners, it’s clear that the Market plays a vital role in supporting local economic growth.

This past season saw remarkable growth, more vendors, more visitors, and more energy than ever before. We’re deeply grateful to all the vendors, volunteers, visitors, and the Elmvale BIA for their continued support and dedication.

We’re already looking ahead with excitement to the 2026 season.

Fall Fair to hockey games: Elmvale arena getting ‘significant’ internet boost

By: Wayne Doyle, Local Journalism Initiative Reporter, Source: BarrieToday.com. Oct 3, 2025

Long considered the Bermuda Triangle of the internet, Elmvale Community Arena is on its way to becoming a high-powered hub for all things wired.

In fact, by around this time next week, it should be ready to go, just in time for the Elmvale Fall Fair, allowing participants, visitors and vendors the ability to post and respond to texts and videos quickly and effortlessly — just like at home.

“We’re here to propose a significant and modern upgrade for the Elmvale arena,” Alexia Agouridis, chief marketing officer for SwoopFiber told council Wednesday night as she began her presentation. “We want to provide state-of-the-art wireless connectivity.

“The entire project, from start to finish, is fully funded by SwoopFiber with absolutely no cost to the township,” she added.

According to Agouridis, the company will provide high-speed internet access for all spectators, visitors and businesses using the arena and the area surrounding it. It would be accessible through a simple, branded landing page on their device.

Additionally, the system would allow local hockey teams the ability to stream their games in high definition.

“This isn’t just about basic internet, it’s about enabling two powerful and high-value services,” Agouridis said. “In today’s world, connectivity is an expectation.

“This system will allow everyone who comes to the arena the ability to share their experience on social media in real time,” she added.

Her pitch appeared to hit all the right notes and connected with township councillors, most of whom say they have had less-than-wonderful internet experiences in the George Street arena.

“I’ve spent years of my life in that arena,” said Coun. Danielle Alexander. “It has horrible, if any, cellphone service, so this is definitely a welcome addition.”

Coun. Phil Fisher concurred. As the parent of a hockey player, he said he sometimes finds himself at work and not at the game. With this technology, he said he can follow the game in real-time.

“I would endorse it, there’s no downside,” he said.

Agouridis said the company needs a day to complete the installation and is working toward doing the work next Tuesday. She said the company assumes all liability and responsibility for the program, and would need little more than an outlet from the township.

“The township’s role is straightforward — provide scheduled access for the installation and sustained power source for the equipment,” she said.

Agouridis said the installation will adhere to all Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) rules and regulations and would ensure all privacy laws are followed.

This is the first project the company, which is based in Elmvale, will work on in partnership with the township.

“In the future, we hope to come and discuss more opportunities to bring public Wi-Fi to things like parks and other facilities,” Agouridis said.

Township council unanimously supported the request.

Upcoming Installation of Commemorative Veteran’s Crosswalk in Elmvale

By Township of Springwater, Oct. 3, 2025

The Township of Springwater is pleased to announce the installation of a Commemorative Veteran’s Crosswalk at the intersection of Queen Street West and Maria Street in Elmvale. This project is scheduled to begin the week of October 6, 2025, and adheres to the Royal Canadian Legion’s design standards to honour and commemorate the contributions of Canadian veterans.

The crosswalk will feature a design that includes bilingual stenciled messages, two large red maple leaf symbols, and a ladder-style crosswalk configuration. This design is carefully selected to embody national themes of remembrance and to serve as a visible and respectful tribute to veterans. The Commemorative Crosswalk project is part of the Township’s yearly road painting plan. Please note that this work is contingent on favourable weather conditions. Additionally, there will be no impact on traffic during this project.

An official unveiling ceremony will take place once the crosswalk is completed. Additional details about this event will be provided closer to completion.

This project represents a meaningful opportunity to visibly honour the service and sacrifice of Canadian veterans through a dignified public installation.

Celebrating the Spirit of Youth

By Rowan King, Oct. 6, 2025

Elmvale – Well we’ve been impressed once again by the talents of our local youth. This past Sunday (Oct 5th) we held the annual Ambassador Program. I am pleased to announce that the 57th Elmvale Fall Fair Ambassador is Eliza Graham and the 17th Elmvale Fall Fair Junior Ambassador is Max Stones.

As we say each year the judges really had their work cut out for them – between interviews, posters (Jr.’s), impromptu questions (Sr.’s) and speeches each youth presented themselves with individuality, compassion and a true passion for this community.

I do want to take this time to thank our judges: Matt Garwood, 1st vice president of the Flos Agricultural Society, Jennifer Roberson, local principal, and Dr. Christina Bodea, local business owner and dentist. The program really isn’t possible without these amazing individuals who are given the toughest job. Thank you.

We also want to acknowledge the ambassadors who passed on their title this year: Alex and Everson, you did a fantastic job representing us over the past year and we look forward to seeing where life takes you. I’m sure we will be seeing you both around the fair for many years to come. Likely helping out in some way or another. We see and feel your passion for this small town. Thank you.

Please if you see any of these youth around the fair this coming weekend, stop and say hi, and congratulate them on participating in this long standing tradition.
