February was a full month of different occasions and as the shortest month of the year it seemed to go by very quickly. We saw a period of very cold weather, heavy snow accumulation and early Spring-like temperatures. Meteorological Spring begins this coming Sunday on March 1. Soon we will have the weather specialist forecast for the next couple of months and hopefully it will be an optimistic outlook and we will have a period of sunshine and warm weather.
Originally Family Day was going to be quiet in the community as no activity had been planned. The ice rink volunteers decided that wasn’t a good idea and determined that a family skate would be a great idea. On family day the sun shone, the temperature was mild and a number of families with their children showed up to the rink. Shinny hockey, family skating, bonfire, snacks and music made the afternoon a fun experience for everyone. Thanks to rink volunteers and their families for making a quiet day a fun one.
The rink has been in excellent condition this year thanks to the volunteers who have put in countless hours. Their efforts have been greatly appreciated by the community. Since early December the rink has been well kept and opened with the exception of a short period of time in early January. Seasonal temperatures will now be near the 0 C range and it won’t be long before the sun’s warmth will melt away the ice. While you still can get out to the rink and have some fun with the kids.
Euchre has returned to the community centre on Thursday nights. Early reports indicate that the number of players is growing and where else can you have an evening of fun for $2. If you are interested in joining, the evening begins at 7 PM. Bring your Tonnie and snacks and beverages if you want.
Our community runs on the volunteers who sponsor and lead the amazing events held in our community. The Anten Mills Community Recreation Association greatly appreciates the support provided. It is important that a review of previous events and future activities is conducted. The CRA is going to have a meeting on Wednesday, March 4 beginning at 7:30 PM at the community centre. With the annual Easter Eggstravaganza and Rabbit Run just a few weeks away this meeting is important to ensure that there is sufficient support and interest. The meeting is also an opportunity for the community to learn about other activities and events held and if there is interest in others. Could it be pickleball, cornhole, book club, walking group or monthly coffee meet? The CRA is always open to listen to suggestions so if you are interested please attend as all are welcome.
This is a municipal election year. Elections this year will be on Monday, October 26. The Township of Springwater is hosting an Open House on March 25 from 7 to 9PM at the municipal office. This is a great opportunity to meet with all the members of Council and see what has and is occurring within the municipality. Senior staff will also be in attendance. If you’re not sure if you are on the voters list you will be able to find out there. This is an excellent opportunity to interact with staff and Councillors in an informal forum.
Are you ready for more daylight? Of course most of us are. Daylight Saving Time returns on Sunday, March 8 at 2AM. Remember to turn your clocks ahead one hour when you retire on Saturday night. It is also a great time to change the batteries in your smoke alarms and remember they only have a life expectancy of 10 years and they should be changed if they are expired.
That’s all for this week, THANKS for READING, BE WELL and STAY SAFE.
