Hello Everyone. When we read the Gospels to discover what Jesus was teaching His disciples, we find life-enhancing wisdom; His teaching is as valuable and relevant today as it was when the disciples sat at His feet listening. Everything He did, He did with His good shepherd’s heart.
With Good Friday just a few days away, we are reminded of the great sacrifice Jesus made so that we can experience forgiveness and, eventually, the reality of John 3:16,17 – “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son so that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.” In everything we are facing, He is on our side.
Jesus calls ordinary people like you and me to become His disciples – people with hearts and minds open to responding to the truth of who He is. Let’s remember that we can be witnesses to all the events that occurred in the Gospels because we have the word of those who were there and their words, under the watchful eyes of God, have been preserved for us so that we too can believe. Let’s remember that Jesus prayed for those who believe in Him through His disciples’ words. You can read His prayer in John 17:20-21.
Jesus is asking us to tell others about who He is and how much He loves us. He’s asking us to do this in our home, in our church, in our school, in our workplace, at our part-time job, in our youth group, in our sports’ team, in our community’s food bank, in our women and children’s shelters, in our prisons and halfway houses, and maybe even in cities and villages far away.
When Jesus asks us to do this, He stays with us to help us meet the needs of the people around us; He’s always with us to help us along the way. May the reminder of His death and resurrection cement our faith in Him. Amen
