MERKLEY, Ronald Thomas
Ron passed away on Wednesday October 29, 2025 at Royal Victoria Hospital. He was born in Midland, Ontario, July 23, 1943. Predeceased by his beloved wife Marlene (Jan 18, 2014) and his parents Robert & Mary Merkley. Father of Michael and Todd (Megan), cherished grandfather of Briar and Brynn. Brother of the late Robert (Carol), Larry (Annette), Cecil (the late Phyllis), the late Brian (Linda) and sister Barbara (Venard) Desroches. Brother-in-law of Peter (the late Mary), Anita, Sheila (Joel), Barb (Malcolm also his dear friend), Larry, Morris (Heather) and much loved “Uncle” by all his nieces & nephews.
Ron was a great Dad to Michael and Todd. He taught them how to repair their bikes, their cars, their motorcycles, and their snowmobiles. They loved working together on different projects.
Ron adored his Granddaughters, Briar and Brynn and he always had a smile on his face when he showed pictures of them on his phone. He always looked forward to seeing them because they brightened his day.
Ron enjoyed country music, especially “Jason McCoy and the Road Hammers”. He loved family gatherings and looked forward to the weekly family breakfasts. He often dropped in to visit his brothers and sister in the Midland/Penetanguishene area to catch up on family news. He also enjoyed his daily driving routes in Barrie with stops at Tim Hortons and McDonald’s and shopping for bargains. Ron’s favourite desserts were raisin pie, butter tarts or a bowl of his mom’s rice pudding recipe. He also loved spaghetti, but the sauce had to be made with Bravo sauce. He enjoyed many years of boating on Georgian Bay with family & friends. He enjoyed watching sports as well. It was the little things in life that made him happy. Ron has had a good life and although his journey was challenging at times, he lived his life “One Day at a Time”.
Cremation and a private family service have taken place. Arrangements entrusted to Nicholls Funeral Home – 330 Midland Ave, Midland, Ontario 705-526-5449. Memorial Donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, if desired.
