Letter From the Editor – By Kari Belcourt, North Simcoe Springwater News
After 10 editions, I suppose it is time to formally introduce myself. You can only hide behind a keyboard for so long.
I am the volunteer behind this publication, a role I took on out of a deep love and gratitude for my mother, my family, and the community I call home. There is truly something special about our local area and the people who live here. Through the many seasons and storms of life, one constant has remained: good things grow here. There is something in this soil that nurtures good people, strong communities, and places worth coming home to.
My vision for the North Simcoe Springwater News is to help readers connect with their local community and the people within it. Local history reminds us of the traditions, stories, and culture that have shaped our region. Independent investigative journalism promotes transparency and fair reporting on issues that matter to residents. Public information and community event coverage help readers stay informed about developments and opportunities in their neighbourhoods. Reader submissions provide a platform for community voices, while our lifestyle features offer a chance to explore local culture, food, and the unique character of our area.
At a time when trust in the media is increasingly being questioned, we remain committed to delivering factual, balanced, and community-focused reporting. Many readers have expressed concerns about misinformation, misleading online content, and media coverage that appears driven by particular viewpoints. Local newspapers have a long and proud history of serving rural communities, documenting achievements, preserving local heritage, and reporting on the issues that affect everyday lives.
Our commitment is simple: to be a trusted source of local news and information. We believe quality community journalism should be accessible to everyone, which is why we will continue to offer our publication free of charge in both print and digital formats.
Thank you for welcoming us into your homes, supporting local journalism, and sharing in the stories that make North Simcoe and Springwater such remarkable places to live. We look forward to continuing to serve this community and to telling the stories that matter most to you.
Sincerely, Kari Belcourt
