Community Update from Ward 1 Councillor Matt Garwood, Township of Springwater
Hello Springwater residents. I’m pleased to share updates on recent council decisions, community events, and improvements that are shaping our community. My goal with these columns is to inform, not to offer opinions, so you can stay connected with what’s happening in Springwater.
New AED at the Elmvale Ball Park
A new Automated External Defibrillator (AED) has been installed at the Elmvale Ball Park and is available to assist in responding to a cardiac emergency should one occur.
While we hope it is never needed, having an AED on-site ensures that life-saving equipment is readily accessible during a critical situation. This gives first responders and bystanders the best possible opportunity to provide assistance until emergency services arrive.
The AED is clearly marked and located in an easily accessible area of the park so it can be retrieved quickly if required. Thank you to the Elmvale Ball Park Committee for prioritizing safety and for their efforts to support the community.
Seeking Crossing Guards for New 2026 Locations
Subject to the successful recruitment of qualified crossing guards, Council has authorized two additional school crossing guard locations beginning with the Fall 2026 school year. With these additions, Elmvale will have four staffed crossing guard locations:
- Queen Street East and Simcoe Street.
- Yonge Street South near John Street and Houden Street.
- NEW: Simcoe Street marked crosswalk across from HCES.
- NEW: Kerr Street and Shaw Street intersection near OLOL.
The Township is currently seeking crossing guards for the new 2026 locations!
Bike Night in Elmvale
For many years, Thursday nights have meant Bike Night in Elmvale, a chance for the community to come together while supporting the Elmvale Legion and the Elmvale & District Food Bank.
Over the years, this weekly tradition has raised thousands of dollars for two important local organizations that consistently give back to the community. This is what small-town life is all about.

New Fire Hall on Snow Valley Road
The Township of Springwater Fire and Emergency Services has officially moved into the new station at 1116 Snow Valley Road in Midhurst.
Congratulations to Springwater Fire & Emergency Services, our dedicated volunteer firefighters, and the entire community on the completion of this important municipal facility.
This project represents a significant investment in the safety of our residents and supports the volunteers who serve our community with commitment and professionalism.
The Township has four active fire stations located throughout Springwater to provide emergency response to the community. Midhurst Station 2 joins our stations in Elmvale, Hillsdale, and Minesing as part of our ongoing commitment to keeping Springwater safe.
Traffic Calming Update
Thank you to Springwater residents for sharing their feedback.
The bollards on Shaw Street, Centennial Avenue, Nash Avenue, Graham Street, William Street and Allenwood Road in Elmvale will be adjusted. In the meantime, the centre bollard will remain in place, while the outside bollards have been temporarily removed and will be reinstalled shortly.
