ERNEST RAMLER – (Twin Bridge Marina)

With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Ernest Ramler, two months short of his 99th birthday. He passed peacefully at his home in Waubaushene on 1 Sept, 2026. Beloved husband of Elfriede.  Loving Father of Brian (Jackie), and Monica.  Cherished Grandfather of Brandon (Victoria), Shawn, Axel and Cameron. Great Grandfather of Bowe and Blaze. A Celebration of Life is to be held at a later date. Ernie was trained as a Master machinist and worked in his chosen profession in Austria. Ernie left for Canada in 1951 at the age of 24.  He worked in Sept Iles Northern Quebec in a logging operation and wanted the peace and tranquility that working in the forest could bring. He did this for quite some time until he was able to save enough of his earnings to send his Fiancée Frieda, passageway to come by ship from Austria and they were married in La Valle, Quebec immediately upon arrival.  A marriage that lasted 73 years. His machinist skills brought him to MacNamara’s in Toronto and then Walter Young’s in Waubaushene in 1955. In 1964 they started building Twin Bridge Marina out of the swamp and shoreline on Duck Bay Road.  Sixty-six years later the Marina continues to be owned and operated by the Family and is now run by their Children, Brian and Monica along with their Grandson Axel.  Ernest retired in 1993. His passion was to create things on the lathe all the while singing and yodeling Austrian folk songs.  Work was not a chore, it was looked forward to every day. He touched many lives through his work and his time hunting in Northern Ontario.  All who knew him saw the hard working, honest man that he was. His favourite times were Family dinner celebrations surrounded by Family and good food. Throughout his time in Canada he cherished moments spent hunting and fishing enjoying the peacefulness of nature and recounting his many stories of moose and deer sightings, his favourite place being his little cabin on the Black Sturgeon River near Nipigon. Thank you to the many PSW’s who cared for Ernest with dignity and kindness throughout his last years.  Til the end, his heartwarming smile and songs were a delight and will be dearly missed.
