Micaela Rebelo
Micaela Da Rocha Amaral Rebelo passed away at Providence Healthcare in Scarborough on May 20, 2026, at the age of 90, surrounded by her loving family.
She was predeceased by her dear husband, Dinis Jacinto Rebelo, and several siblings. She leaves behind her brother, Luis Amaral (Evelina), and four children who brought her endless joy: Helena Rebelo (Mike), John Rebelo, David Rebelo (Ming), and Josefina Brooke (Andrew). She was a devoted grandmother to Mikaela Lefaive (Jean-François), Alicia Lefaive (Catherine), Perseus Rebelo (Calvin), Geneviève Lefaive (Dexter), Nathanael Rebelo (Cypress), and Owen Brooke, and a proud great-grandmother to Arthur and Florence Robitaille.
At age 30, Micaela arrived in Canada with three young children and a light spring jacket — in March. She left the semi-tropical island of São Miguel in the Azores to join her husband in snowy Manitouwadge, Ontario. Despite the shortage of olive oil and fresh produce, they built a warm and welcoming home. From her tiny kitchen came endless meals that nourished not only her family, but anyone fortunate enough to sit at her table. Though she loved her adopted country, she never stopped longing for her homeland — especially during stretches of -40 weather.
Micaela was a devout Catholic, a loyal Blue Jays fan, and a dedicated viewer of The Young and the Restless. Her house was always neat as a pin and carried the scent of lilacs, simmering garlic, or fresh bread. When she was not cooking or cleaning, she could often be found doing yoga, walking her neighbourhood, or knitting while cackling at Jackie Chan movies or slapstick comedy.
Despite her profound wisdom, she rarely offered advice. So when she did, everyone listened. It almost always began with: “You know…”
She will be deeply missed by all those lucky enough to have been loved by her.
