THOMSON, Christie (Chris)

August 19, 1931 – September 15, 2024

In life and in death, Chris was surrounded by love. Engaged to the end, he left us peacefully at home on September 15, 2024. His close-knit family – children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins – now carry forward a wealth of cherished memories.

In Quebec City on August 19, 1931, Chris was welcomed into the family of Cecil and Kate Thomson joining his siblings Fay, George and Hilda. After graduating from Bishop’s University and embarking on a teaching career that included a mission stint in Kenya, Chris settled in Midland where he met his beloved life-partner and wife, Marg (nee Heasman). They enjoyed 65 happy years of marriage, raising five children: Jim (Annie), Kate, Jill (Walter), Ruth (Keith) and Scott (Jill). He shared his love, curiosity, and humour with his eleven grandchildren: Kim (Nick), Nicky and Mikey; Ashley, Julia and Ryan; Alyson and Taryn; and Sara, Ethan and Meredith.

Chris was a kind and inspiring mentor who touched the lives of many. He was a faithful member of Midland Alliance Church, a well-respected teacher and librarian at Midland Secondary School and a founding member of Huronia Players. He shared his love for drama and music, directing several plays and musicals that inspired countless students. Summers were especially treasured as he spent time with family and friends at his family cottage in St. Pats on the Lower St. Lawrence.

A Celebration of a Life Well-lived will take place at Midland Alliance Church, 829 Yonge Street, Midland on Saturday, October 12 at 11 am with a drop-in reception to follow in the lower hall until 2:30.

For those unable to attend in person, the service will be livestreamed on the church website at https://machurch.ca/media. The livestream will also be available two weeks after the service at the same site, allowing friends and family to participate at their convenience.
