Annie’s Journal

Hello Everyone. We long for lasting springtime temperatures and sunny days, but even more, we long for good health for those around us.

It seems like so many are facing cancer treatments. Chemotherapy and radiation aren’t just hard on cancer cells. The aftereffects of these treatments affect the whole family. Caregivers lose sleep as they meet needs in ways they may never have done before. Perhaps they miss work resulting in less money when their paycheck arrives.

Children are encouraged to be quieter. Perhaps they are taken to stay with other family members or friends. Now they are away from home at a time when they need the security of their parents’ love. Maybe they must wear masks at home because germs that begin at school can be deadly to a person with a compromised immune system.

And it isn’t just cancer that disrupts our home. Colds; the flu; bronchitis; back and shoulder injuries; stomach upsets; heart attacks; vision difficulties; accidents that occur far from home – it’s a long list of situations that can stress family members and those who care for them.

What a blessing that there is Someone we can turn to, Someone who invites us to come to Him. In fact, that is the word that Matthew 11:28-30 records Jesus saying: “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

You know how sometimes people want to help us, but they seem to make things harder than they already were? Jesus isn’t like that. He’s gentle. He’s kind. He understands the weariness of burdens. When we ask for His comfort, for His wisdom, for the perfect peace He alone can provide in the middle of our suffering, we experience peace and find rest for our souls. If life is hard for you right now, invite Jesus into the midst of it. He’ll come. He’ll come. Amen.
