55+ Walking Group – Township of Tiny
Nature Connect Program Brings Seniors Outdoors – New Walking Group Series Launches This Spring
Older adults across North Simcoe have rediscovered the physical, mental, and social benefits of spending time outdoors through Nature Connect: Outdoor Adventures for Seniors, a free, Age-friendly project offered by the Township of Tiny.
Funded by the Province of Ontario’s Seniors Community Grant Program, Nature Connect was designed to reduce social isolation and improve overall well‑being by providing outdoor recreation, wellness, and educational experiences for adults aged 55 and over. The program encourages active living, social connection, and inclusion for older residents.
Over the past year, the program successfully delivered a wide range of guided outdoor experiences, including hiking, canoeing, kayaking, forest‑therapy walks, wild‑edibles foraging, beginner and intermediate snowshoeing, a winter forest‑therapy walk, and an eight‑week slow sensory walking series. These activities welcomed seniors of varying abilities and took place across Tiny’s extensive network of parks, forests, and trails.
Building on this momentum, Nature Connect is now launching a Volunteer‑Led Walking Group Series focused on activation, education, and social connection. Walks are designed for adults 55+, and participants are welcome to register in advance or simply drop in on the day. Those who sign up ahead of time will receive updates and notifications in the event of weather‑related changes.
