Building a Life for All Seasons – written by Annie Warner Donnelly

(Formerly Annie’s Journal)

Hello Everyone. Have we become so distracted by the events taking place around us that we find ourselves limiting the time we spend with God? Has this resulted in our moving away from Him and His promise of plans to give us a future and a hope; of His promise to never leave us or forsake us? Have we begun to think that He doesn’t care about the sounds of war and economic instability, of uncurable diseases and those with grief-stricken hearts? Have we stopped believing His promises?

Bringing God’s words into the events of our daily living provide us with a framework that will sustain us through the ups and down of the seasons of our lives. God’s word sustains through the early years when we’re studying during grade school, high school, college or university – all with the hope of discovering what we like to do and are good at doing it.

Perhaps the next season is finding that special person we want to spend our lifetime loving. Having children may become a reality. Maybe we choose to remain single, loving the members of our family and serving others in our community. Illness may come our way. Parents may die; others we love may die. The company where we work may be sold or go out of business. We may find ourselves unemployed.

The seasons of life vary from happy to sad; from challenging to uplifting; from joy-filled to grief-stricken; from lonely to not lonely; from balanced to overwhelmed; and more. We desperately need the strategies that enable us to be kept in the perfect peace that Jesus offers us – We need to build a Christ-centred life that enables us to move through all our life’s seasons in His perfect peace. Will we build our lives on the opinions of others, or will we trust God’s word?

Mahatma Gandhi (1869-1948 when he was assassinated) taught, “The future depends on what you do today.” Let’s think about what that means in our lives. Let’s think about the origin of our beliefs. How do they affect what we will do today? Amen.
