Senior Tiny Times – Township of Tiny Senior Speaker Series

This coming Fall, the Township of Tiny’s Senior Advisory Committee is pleased to present our annual Senior Speaker Series event – a series of informative workshops on issues pertaining to seniors, older adults and their caregivers.  The four sessions will be held in partnership with local clubs and service providers. Admittance to the following presentations is free with pre-registration.

Wednesday, September 9, 2026 – 2-PART – Move Well, Feel Well: Discover Qigong and Reflexology

Join Monica Marquis, a Certified Medical Qigong Practitioner with over 20 years of teaching experience, and Janet Thorpe, Reflexology Practitioner and Reiki Master, for a two-part introduction to these wellness practices. Learn about Qigong (pronounced “chi-kung”), an ancient movement practice and precursor to Tai Chi that is enjoyed by people around the world for its potential benefits, including improved balance, flexibility, strength, energy, and overall well-being. Participants will have the opportunity to try simple standing Qigong movements suitable for all abilities. No floor work or special equipment required.

The session will then introduce reflexology, a natural touch therapy based on the principle that specific points on the feet, hands, and head correspond to different areas of the body. Learn about the principles of reflexology, how sessions are typically conducted, and why many people incorporate this practice into their personal wellness routines. Whether you are looking for new ways to stay active, manage stress, or support healthy aging, this informative and interactive presentation offers practical wellness strategies in a welcoming and supportive environment.

Spending time in nature can have powerful benefits for your physical, mental, and emotional well-being. Karen will share practical ways to connect more deeply with the natural world and incorporate nature into your everyday life.

Following the presentation, participants who wish to do so are invited to take part in an easy, guided outdoor walk around the community centre designed to encourage mindfulness, relaxation, and appreciation of nature at a comfortable pace. After the walk, enjoy tea and an opportunity for discussion and reflection. Whether you choose to attend the presentation only or also join the optional outdoor experience, you’ll discover how spending time in nature can contribute to a healthier, more balanced, and more mindful life.
