The Penetang Kings recorded three more wins over the past two weeks in the Provincial Junior Hockey League’s Carruthers Division and sit in a tie with Stayner for third place.  The Kings record now stands at 9 wins and 2 losses as they reach the quarter point of the regular season.

On Friday October 23 the Kings got past a strong Orillia Terriers club with a 6-4 victory on home ice.  Penetang jumped out to a 3-0 first period lead on goals from Camron Hutchinson, Ryder Thomas and Logan Tucker who scored shorthanded. Cole Rumbolt scored for the Kings in the second stanza sandwiched between Orillia goals by Evan Glidden and William Muszynski.  In the third period Orillia’s Muszynski narrowed the margin to 4-3 before Blake Weicker fired home a Kings marker.  Orillia scored again to make it a one goal contest as Jack Seney found the back of the net before Brody Coe sealed the deal for Penetang with an empty net goal.  Kings’ goaltender Landon Simec turned aside 22 of 26 shots while the Terriers Reid Thomas made 35 saves on 30 shots.    The CompuSOLVE Kings Player of the game was winger Wyndam Brownlee who assisted on four ot the Kings goals.

On Saturday October 24 the Kings hit the road and traveled to Bracebridge to face the Muskoka Bears and came away with 5- 1 win at the Lumber Centre. Brendan Williams scored the lone first period goal for Penetang. In the second period Alex Sajan and Owen Fuller both netted single tallies for the Kings while Tyson Jennings managed to score the only Bears goal.  In the third, Owen Clennett and Sajan scored goals to round out the Kings offence.  The star of the game was the Bears netminder Luke Rockburne who turned aside 42 of the Kings 47 shots.  Owen Moreau was steady again in the Penetang goal, allowing only one goal on 23 shots.  The Kings CompuSOLVE player of the game was Clennett who played his usual efficient two-way game.

On Friday October 30 the Kings romped over the Huntsville Otters on home ice scoring six first period goals enroute to a 9-2 win.  The game was less than four minutes old when it was delayed for 40 minutes due to a sheet of tempered glass that required a repair.  When play resume the Kings offence went to work as Sajan, Brownlee, Hutchinson, Josh Hutton, Lucas Sibley and Williams scored single goals before Huntsville’s Owen Rueck scored sending the teams to the first intermission with Penetang leading by a 6-1 margin.  In the second period Rueck scored his second goal for the Otters before Brownlee scored his second of the night for Penetang.  Third period goals by Thomas and Coe rounded out the Penetang scoring.  Penetang pelted Otter’s goaltender Ried Snyder with 37 shots while Simec made 17 saves in the Kings goal.

Notes: In a bit of a scheduling anomaly the Huntsville contest marked the fifth time this season out of 11 games  that the Kings and Otters have clashed with the Kings recording victories in all five matchups.

The Kings travel to Stayner on Thursday November 5 to face the Siskins before returning home on Friday November 6 when they play host to the Midland Flyers at 8:00 pm.

They then play a busy weekend with three games in three nights Friday November 13 at home against the Alliston Hornets at 8:00 pm followed on Saturday November 14 with another home game when the Flyers are back in town for an 8:00 pm start.  On Sunday November 15 the Kings travel to Innisfil for an afternoon tilt with the Spartans.
