Anten Mills News – By Dennis Gannon

You likely don’t know it but there is a significant amount of new home construction going on in the village. What, where, I haven’t seen anything is the most likely response. Unless you purposely drive down Davis Way, the new street running between Wilson Dr and Luella Blvd you wouldn’t know. Davis Way is blocked at Luella so you can’t drive between the streets but recently a short tour saw that there are 7 homes under construction of the 14 lots on the street. Many of the homes are well underway and will be occupied no doubt prior to Christmas. The development, by First View Homes, is the second in the community. Their primary development just south of the village proper has almost built out stage one with most of the lots on the north side of Cottonwood constructed. There is believed to be a hold on the stage two development but the company is currently offering new lots. Soon there will be new neighbours in the community.

By definition, we are now past the “Dog days of Summer “. That period is from July 3 until  August 11. Summer certainly isn’t over by any means as there will still be many warm and potentially hot days. This summer we have seen hot humid days with temperatures over 30 C and humidity in the low 40 degrees C along with heavy rainfall. What is the lookout for the future? According to the Old Farmer’s Almanac, September is going to be cool and wet. Hopefully that’s one forecast that is wrong.

Candidates for the upcoming municipal election are out and about. In the last column one candidate was noted for our ward, Ward 3. Since then another individual has submitted the required documents and it is now a two person race. As a reminder, it is important to ensure that you are on the voters list as it is our democratic right to vote and this election may bring a change to the landscape of our municipal government. More information can be found on the Township of Springwater website.

A movie under the stars is a great way to enjoy some family time. With the success of the movie night in July the Chapman family is going to host another movie under the pavilion in August. This one will be on Wednesday, August 26 starting at 8PM. What will be shown isn’t available yet so watch the Anten Mills Community Bulletin Facebook page for details.

Our community utilizes facebook to promote community activities and events and share news. As a private group there is no ability to share posts. Over 1700 members have access to the site. Frequently as administrators we see individuals being invited by members to join. It is a nice gesture but unfortunately the invited individual will always be declined. As a private group those wishing to join are screened and must answer all the questions before they are allowed to join. Failure to answer all the questions results in an immediate decline. It is amazing to see how many spammers try to join and through the diligence of the administrators they are declined. If you have someone that you think would enjoy our posts, have them go through the proper process and suggest to them that they provide full responses.

Gardening was done at the community centre this past week and the gardens are flourishing. If you haven’t been to the community park lately go for a walk and check them out. They are a great backdrop for photos. Thanks to Pat, Judy, Brian and Joan for your support.

September will be busy in the community with a number of activities and events occurring. More will be reported in the next edition but remember that the Autumn Craft and Food Fair is on Saturday, September 26 and there are details on the Facebook page.

Is there someone who needs a shoutout for an accomplishment or celebrating a birthday or anniversary? Besides the signboard on Wilson, why not send me some details and they can be included in this column. The title of the column is Anten Mills News and it’s about our community. Send an email to antenmills1@gmail.com and have that information shared with not only our community but all the readers of this paper.

That’s all for this week. As always, THANKS for READING, BE WELL,STAY SAFE and SAY HI to YOUR NEIGHBOURS.
