FREE TAKEOUT CHRISTMAS DINNER

Elmvale Presbyterian Church, 22 Queen St E would like to invite you to a free Christmas dinner

Sunday December 25th

Throughout the years, Elmvale Presbyterian Church has held  many events for mission and the community of Elmvale has always supported our endeavors. By your attendance at summer BBQ’s , coffee parties and ordering takeout lunches and dinners we have been able to help house and feed the homeless, donate to our local hospitals and hospices, retrofit the High School, help send young hockey players on a EuroTour and support local families in crisis.

As a shout out of thanks to the community, we are offering a free Christmas dinner. Because the threat of illness is still with us, the meal will once again be take-out. Instead of the fellowship around a festive table we will have to offer the safety of takeout. Instead of conversation and laughter at a game, we will have to issue greetings  as we hand you your dinner at the door. What will remain the same, though, is the turkey, dressing, potatoes, veggies, scrumptious dessert and the best wishes served with the meal.

What remains the same, also, is that the meal is FREE. To book your meal, please call 705-322-1411

Friday December 16th from 9 to 3pm or Saturday December 17th from 9-12pm. to book your meal. You can pick up your dinner between 11:45 and 12:15 Christmas Day at the East side of the church.            Delivery is available in town only.

We wish all a blessed Christmas however and with whomever you are able to celebrate and a safe and healthy 2023.

Lit Up Gems

While the First Light event at Saint Marie Among the Hurons is a spectacular must-see (at least once) experience, you are not to worry if you missed out on snagging tickets this year. Across the region, there are many other lesser known Christmas themed light shows that offer a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the season with family and friends.

Each year the Rotary Club of Barrie organizes the Festival of Trees. This gorgeous display of lights appears along Lakeshore Drive, just south of the downtown core. The displays, which are sponsored by a number of local companies, are lit up during the Barrie Santa Claus Parade. A multitude of colours are represented, so for those of you loving the “all white” aesthetic, this will not appeal to you, but for the children and those who are kids at heart, it is magical. Some of the displays appear to be in motion while others glow silently and serenely in the night sky.

Holiday Magic at Blue is another amazing outing that offers a very European Christmas Market vibe. This 1 km holiday interactive light trail that winds its way through the village and around the Mill Pond is ongoing until January 8th, 2023. The Dream Tree and Singing Forest are holiday favourites Besides the sparkle of the festive decor, you can also enjoy Christmas/Seasonal music as you make your way along the many village paths. There will also be plenty of fires to warm you up along the way. On the weekends, bask in the wonder of live music, street performers and horse drawn carriage rides.

Springwater Provincial Park opens its doors this season to offer the Magic of Lights. This is a drive through holiday experience that is sure to please those who do not consider themselves “winter folks”. Enjoy a festive light experience from the comfort and warmth of your car as you make your way through the park that features well known and adored holiday scenes and characters of this very special time of year.

Luma Light Trail at Friday Harbour is another beautiful light display that is well worth the visit. The one kilometre long trail of illuminations runs throughout the nature reserve at Friday Harbour. Those enjoying the understated twinkle of warm and cool white lights will truly embrace this opportunity to combine nature with nurture as the trail ends with a warm beverage courtesy of Starbucks.

For those who love checking out what the neighbours have come up with to dazzle and amaze be sure to check out 123 Violet Street that combines the joy of music with the real time rhythmic flickering of lights. Not to be outdone, the display at 36 Shalom Way also uses sights and sounds to create a truly surreal experience. Both homes are located in Barrie. Finally, head over 4 Berkar Street in Angus to catch the spectacular display put on by the Greene Family. Donations to the local Food Bank are encouraged in lieu of cash donations.

Whether you attend a formal event or just make your way through your own neighbourhood, be sure to once again embrace that inner child and see the season anew through the twinkle of lights and the original star bright. Merry Christmas!
